Fifty-Year-Old Doctor Continues Journey to Become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader

(DALLAS) April 18, 2016 – Chiufang H. Hwang, M.D., wife, mother of two and aspiring author, is training and preparing for the upcoming Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader tryouts on May 14, 2016. Dr. Hwang has tried out to become one of America’s Sweethearts 10 times over the years, and at 50 years old, she is more determined than ever.

“The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are an outstanding organization” said Dr. Hwang. “They are well-known and respected all over the world, even in my home country of Taiwan. It has always been a dream of mine to make the team, and everyone has always been very supportive and motivating. I truly enjoy the competition and look forward to the entire tryout experience each year.”

Dr. Hwang began her training regiment three months leading up to the tryouts. She has hired a choreographer to teach her a dance routine, a high-kick instructor to help her with her fan kicks, she attends weekly Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader prep classes at Valley Ranch, and follows a strict exercise routine and nutrition plan.

Dr. Hwang’s journey hasn’t always been easy. In 2012, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), affecting the joints in both of her hands and feet. Although there is no known cure for RA, she is currently taking medication to manage her joint pain, and it hasn’t stopped her from pursuing her dream.

“The competition is very demanding, but I enjoy the challenge of performing and meeting the criteria,” Dr. Hwang added. “I give 110 percent in everything I do. People are always asking if I have made the team. No, but I keep on trying!”

Over the years, Dr. Hwang has become a news topic and has been recognized for her journey to become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader on FOX Sports and the Meredith Viera Show.

As if managing a clinic and preparing for Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader tryouts aren’t keeping her busy enough, Dr. Hwang has also been in the process of writing three books. The first two books are titled “Grown-Up Child” and “Journey from Taiwan.” Her third book will share her personal journey to become one of America’s Sweethearts.
